Alaska Potato Variety Sets Yield Record in Tomsk Region

In the 2026 season, the Alaska potato variety demonstrated a yield of 400 c/ha at the Zarechnoye farm in the Tomsk region — twice the farm’s average of 200 c/ha. This result stands out against the broader context: according to the State Register, the highest previously recorded yield for this variety was 451 c/ha in the Republic of Mari El, which exceeded the Nakra standard by 202 c/ha. The Tomsk achievement thus confirms Alaska’s strong performance potential across different growing conditions and reinforces its reputation as a high-yielding table variety.

Bred by the Ural Research Institute of Agriculture, Alaska is a mid-season table potato with oval tubers, red skin, and cream-colored flesh, producing marketable tubers weighing 98–149 g. Its potential yield reaches up to 82 t/ha, while starch content ranges from 14.0% to 18.5% and taste scores range from good to excellent (4–4.5 points). Marketability stands at 86–87%, with storability at 95%. Notably, the variety is genetically resistant to potato cancer and golden cyst nematode, and the originator reports high resistance to late blight — a trait that positions Alaska as an “eco-product” requiring minimal chemical treatment.
